The Effects of Social Media:
In recent elections, it is more than clear that social media is playing a significant role in the public political views. The problem is: most of social media is filled with intentionally wrong information. This information that is posed as facts is typically just propaganda against one party, although the public views is it as factual information. I think it is safe to say that most of us are guilty of scrolling through our facebook or twitter pages and seeing a headline about anything, doesn't even have to be political. When we see these headlines that draw us in, sometimes we immediately just share them, without even bothering to open the attached link first to read the entire article of information. This is where the major disinformation spread begins. We see a headline that we like, we immediately share it, and then the person that sees our share does the exact same thing, and suddenly this article is reposted all over the internet before anyone even knows the inside information. This is the point of social media: to spread biased and wrong information to create a major divide in political culture. The founding fathers of this country would HATE the idea of social media platforms. Because of social media, the world of debates has pretty much perished at this point. There is no defending of ones opinions and backing information up with facts in someones face. Social media has created a very one sided argument with no defense mechanisms necessary. Debates are necessary in the world of politics, especially when it comes time for elections. Debates do more for us than social media platforms in terms of really narrowing down who we are going to vote for. Social media is ruining our politics, and our founding fathers would most definitely not approve.
